Running has been something I have done on and off since graduating high school. It’s the most competitive thing I’ve ever done and that’s because I am competing with myself. That little voice inside my brain that tells me it’s too hard or to stop. When I find the courage and strength to prove that voice wrong, it is the sweetest victory!
I am lucky enough to work alongside someone who has become more than a co-counselor. In the two years that I have been at Pioneer, I have developed a fabulous friendship with Jami (my work partner). She too loves running, so coaching Girls on the Run seemed like the perfect opportunity to reach out to some of our girls and empower them to be the best they can be!
During the short amount of time we have been a team, we have witnessed girls grow in self-esteem, strength and we’ve watched friendships form with the girls. It is heartwarming to hear things like, “the two of us went running together this weekend.” During practices we are seeing bonds formed and girls really being honest with their struggles, strengths and goals to improve!
We can’t wait to see where our Heart & Sole team goes in the future. I believe with all my heart the girls are going to be better because they participated. They will love themselves a little more and therefore will be able to go out in the world and find success!
