Hi! My name is Camryn, I am 17 years old and I am a junior coach this year for Girls on the Run at Arbor Creek Elementary School. I originally became interested in coaching for two reasons: the first one being that my cousin coached a team many years ago and fell in love with the program and the second reason being that I love the sport of running with a passion and enjoy leading others to that healthy lifestyle. I also have a fondness of the 3rd-5th grade age group that I am helping coach this season. Their enthusiasm and zest for life in general never fails to amaze me. Nothing brightens my day more than seeing the girls finding it in themselves to push themselves further than they thought they could ever go. It is the best feeling when you finally see that lightbulb go off in their little imaginative heads and they realize that they are powerful and beautiful and wonderful just the way they are because they are a Girl on the Run.
At about the half way point in the season, our group of girls has made tremendous progress. Not only have they gotten physically stronger, but they have also grown immensely as individuals. I think they are all really starting to see the beauty in who they are and that being themselves is the best person to be. There is never a dull moment at practice because their bold personalities have the capability to liven up the program so easily. I truly believe they are becoming the face of success and they know it, too. A lot of the girls have already expressed how excited they are for the 5K on May 20 and I can’t wait to see how amazing they do.
Deciding to help coach this season has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Even though the girls are much younger than me, they have taught me an immense amount. They've showed me the power of positivity and most importantly the gift that a healthy body truly is. I truly cannot wait to see how well these girls race in May and how this awesome program sets them in motion for their bright futures.
