Lifesaving Skills, Stronger Communities: CPR & AED Training at CPKC Stadium

On Saturday, August 15, members of the Girls on the Run Greater Kansas City community joined participants from across Kansas City at CPKC Stadium for a morning focused on something that can make a life-changing difference: knowing how to respond in an emergency.

The KC Current AED/CPR Training, presented by CPKC Has Heart in partnership with The University of Kansas Health System, gave attendees the opportunity to learn and practice lifesaving CPR and AED skills in a hands-on setting.

For Girls on the Run Greater Kansas City, participating in the event was a natural extension of our commitment to creating healthy, safe and supportive communities for girls.

As GOTRKC COO Victoria Wymer shared, “When we can equip people in our community with the skills and confidence to step in during an emergency, that impact reaches far beyond one person.”

That sense of confidence is especially important for the adults who support young people. Girls on the Run relies on dedicated coaches, volunteers, families and community partners who show up for girls in countless ways throughout the year. Learning CPR and how to use an AED adds another important tool that can help people feel prepared to act when every second matters.

Learning Skills That Can Save a Life

Throughout the morning, participants learned how to recognize an emergency, perform CPR and properly use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Just as importantly, the training provided an opportunity to practice those skills so participants could leave feeling more prepared to respond confidently in a real-life situation.

The event brought people together around a shared goal: creating a community where more people know what to do when someone needs help.

For Girls on the Run, that idea of preparedness connects closely with what we teach girls every season. Our programs help participants develop confidence, recognize their own strengths and learn that they are capable of taking action—even when a situation feels challenging.

Community Partners Making an Impact

We are incredibly grateful to the KC Current, CPKC Has Heart and The University of Kansas Health System for making this training possible and creating an accessible opportunity for community members to gain such valuable skills.

Hosting the event at CPKC Stadium made the morning even more special and reinforced the power of organizations coming together to invest in the health and well-being of the Kansas City community.

Thank you as well to everyone who gave their Saturday morning to participate. Taking the time to learn CPR and AED skills is an investment not only in yourself, but also in the teammates, coworkers, friends, family members and neighbors around you.

We hope these are skills participants never have to use. But because of this training, more members of our community are prepared if that moment ever comes.

And that can make all the difference.
