Course Map

The 5K Course is a 3.1 mile course. The race begins on Royal Way and finishes on Chiefs Way. The 5K participants will pass a water stop on mile 1 and on mile 2. Course monitors and cheerleaders will be along the course to cheer on the girls and 5K participants.

Event Parking: please enter at Gate 2 just off the Blue Ridge cutoff. You will be directed by parking attendants to park in Lot C. School bus parking is located at the back of Lot C. Parking attendants will restrict traffic around the course from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. All traffic will be sent to Gate 5 to park in Lot N starting at 8:30 AM.

If you need to leave the event early or have other commitments immediately following the event, we HIGHLY recommend parking in Lot N. This will prevent you from gridlock in Lot C while GOTR girls and runners finish the race.

Frequently Asked Questions

CAN I BRING MY DOG OR PET?

For safety, all furry friends are not allowed on the course or at the event, so please leave all pets at home on 5K day! All pets will be asked to return to the pet owner's vehicle if spotted at the event.

I'm a community runner. Where do I lineup?

Our start line is unique just like all the amazing girls in our program! You will notice the starting lineup is lined with school feather flags on Royal Way. If you are a community runner not running with a particular school, please lineup at front of the school flags right near the start arch.

Where is the best place for my family and friends to cheer?

Spectators' energy is always incredible at our 5K, and we love a loud audience. However, to ensure the safety of runners and walkers crossing the finish line, we require all family and friends to cheer near the start or finish line, behind the bike rack.

Are strollers allowed on the race route?

Strollers are allowed on the race course, but we kindly ask for all individuals pushing a stroller to start at the back of the line to ensure the safety of all runners and walkers.

Are there aid stations available?

Two aid stations will be available on the course. Runners are also encouraged to bring water bottles. Additional water and snacks will be available at the finish line for all 5K runners and walkers.

What time should I get there?

The event opens at 7:45 AM for race day registration, packet pick-up and pre-race festivities in the Fun Zone! The Fun Zone will have activities including face painting, colored hair spray, crown decorating and dancing with a DJ!

WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF THE 5K IS CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER?

The race will go on, rain or shine! In the unlikely event of dangerous weather, the race director may cancel or amend the race for everyone’s safety. No refunds will be given. If weather conditions are unstable on race morning, please check our Facebook page for updates (facebook.com/girlsontherunkc).

How long will the 5k run take?

Finishing times vary of course, but our fastest runners will complete the run in about 20 minutes. Most runners will fall between 30-60 minutes. We will be sweeping the course after the last participant crosses the finish line.

Volunteer Registration

Our 10-week programs end with the Girls on the Run 5K. This event is truly inspirational as girls cross the finish line of their first 5K with huge smiles on their faces and a tremendous sense of accomplishment. We need race day volunteers to help with course monitoring, race registration and other needs.

Volunteer Today
OPPORTUNITIES

Race Day Registration/Packet Pick-up

Race Day Registration volunteers will be processing registrations for those participants signing up for the 5K on the day of the event. Packet Pickup Volunteers will be handing out race packets that were not picked up before the day of the event. Once the race starts and registration is over and cleaned up we are requesting that you assist with handing out medals to the participants at the finish line. 10 volunteers needed, 7:00 AM check-in time.

Volunteer Check-in

We many volunteers registered for the Girls on the Run 5K! Your job is to welcome them all to the event and give them instructions on where to go and what to do. 5 volunteers needed, 6:30 AM check-in time.

Course Monitors/Cheerleaders

Course monitors are essential to the safety of the 5,000 participants on the course. Course monitors are responsible for making sure participants follow the course correctly and are protected from traffic and spectators. You will be the eyes and ears of the Race Director and may have to respond in the event of an injury or accident. But most important (and fun!) you will be cheering on and motivating the GOTR girls and other participants as they complete the 5K. It is your job to make lots of noise and cheer on our participants as they pass you. 50 to 75 volunteers needed, 8:00 AM check-in time.

Aid Station

Volunteers are responsible for hydrating our participants along the course. You will maintain a supply of small cups filled with water and hand them to runners and walkers as they pass. Of course, cheering on runners is always encouraged! 20 volunteers needed per aid station, 8:00 AM check-in time.

Hospitality

As a Hospitality Volunteer, you will assist with all of the refreshments provided to runners at the finish line. This will include slicing fruit and preparing other items before the race and then, ensuring that each runner gets refreshments after the race. Other responsibilities include re-stocking water and food as needed, keeping the area clean, ensuring participants keep moving through the line, and post-race clean-up. Supplies, such as hand sanitizer, gloves, knives & cutting boards, will be provided at the race. 25 volunteers needed, 8:00 AM check-in time.

Fun Zone

As a Fun Zone Volunteer your role will be getting the GOTR girls pumped up and excited for the 5K. Face paint, colorful hair spray, crown-making materials, and Inspiration Station cards will be provided for you to help the girls get into the spirit. 50 volunteers needed, 7:00 AM check-in time.
